In Japan and amongst the Japanese nothing is done without a formal introduction or reference. Respecting this process demonstrates your readiness to learn and follow traditional Japanese protocols, which are naturally different than the American way . . .Savvy learners like you know that studying a foreign language is learning and respecting the corresponding culture. Fully completing the interest form communicates you are open to doing foreign ways and doing things the Japanese way.

How do you compare with other programs?

Our students prove this regularly via external assessment processes with native Japanese who are not their paid instructors.

2) Complete your interest form/application in full with verifiable information.  Leaving blanks empty slows down our  simple process.  Alert your references we'll be calling to ensure they will call us back if we have to leave a message.

3) Please recognize that both our time is valuable.  To offer all students the best customer service, we must serve clients on a first serve, first serve basis. Our priority is on serving those committed to learning, as demonstrated through following simple efficiency procedures related to running this educational business and private program.

4) Be proactive. Although we do not guarantee potential clients being accepted into our studies program after evaluation, knowing your own schedule enough to readily strategize future lesson times when offered, demonstrates your readiness and motivation to study.

How can I sample a lesson?

We have incorporated a thoughtful "sampling" process into our "get acquainted" and/or "enrollment" process. Meeting us through our standardized process is the best way for us both to determine whether or not there is a student-curriculum match.

What is the skills assessment?

Generally speaking, the skills assessments is a mutually beneficial step in the "enrollment" process.  The assessment offers the student a chance to meet a program instructor and "sample" a lesson. At the same time, it also allows the evaluator to determine whether or not the student has an aptitude for the language and assess the students learning style for determine the most appropriate instructor.

Why do I need to have my skills or potential evaluated?

The simplest of reasons is that its apart of a our client satisfaction process.  Additionally, language eloquence is considered by our instructors among the traditional arts, similar to Japanese calligraphy, flower arranging, traditional poetry, martial arts, etc.  Culturally speaking, this is the standard enrolment process among traditional arts in Japan.  And thirdly, most students want to experience a lesson before committing to a term of instruction.

Why do I have to pay for a skills assessment?

For students who have studied Japanese before, we need to have an understanding of your skill, so we can know what are the best study options we can offer you.  For those who haven't, you are demonstrating your value for the instructor's skill. The time and expertise of evaluators, instructors, coaches and trainers is valuable to the students already loyally enrolled in our program.   As with any work in any other industry, we feel our quality educators deserve to be paid for the usage of their professional time and expertise.

How long is my "tentative" skills assessment time kept for me?

Through natural conversation of student who chat with us by phone, together we may tentatively schedule you an appointment. As all appointments are coordinated on a first come first serve basis.   Therefore, should you not secure the assessment within 24 hours from the time of discussion, the time may be offered to the next client. As assessment times are limited and go quickly, we encourage you to promptly secure an appointment time with the evaluator.

What if I or my student does not get accepted to the Kanji Camp program?

Should we feel that we are not good fit for a student, we are always ready to make a recommendations to other program for a student to consider that might be a better fit.  We are often thanked later for those recommendations because students realize after enrolling in the other program what a better fit it is for their needs.  As an integrity business, our goal is to help students find the best fit for their needs, even if its not us.

What does the program cost?

Generally speaking tuition rates are comparable to coaching, sports clubs and other general tutoring in the area. Specifically what our program costs depends on the program choices which are the best fit to your educational goals, learning style, and skill level.  Naturally, we realize that students (and parents) are often concerned with how our program will fit into personal or family budgeting,.   It should be stated that lessons are paid for in advance related to the program and length of study term.

Why are Kanji Camp studies based on an annual educational term?

Every educational institution small and large has an "academic year".  Kanji Camp operates its educational year based on international benchmarking assessments in which our students participate.  Moreover, the Japanese culture and society related to the language we teach requires patience and diligence to develop relationships cross-culturally. Dissimilar to American society, relationship attachments in Japan cannot be made overnight. They take time and diligence to develop.

Can I gain academic or professional certification  via Kanji Camp?

Kanji Camp instructors regularly partner with students towards external organization proficiency assessments.   Its important to remember that local, state, national, world and other certifications are all different.  Each evaluating organization has its sets of requirements including but not limited to instructional hours, proficiency levels and grades.  Therefore, a student is also responsible for understanding the requirements of external organizations and share specific details with us for the implementation of a successful achievement plan.

Can Kanji Camp guarantee my proficiency in Japanese language?

While the answer might surprise people or cause red worry flags in others, Kanji Camp cannot guarantee a students progress, as logically fluency is related to numerous educational factors dependent on the individual student and the environment and location where the language will be used.  Kanji Camp basically is a coaching program for students motivated to learn real, polite, multi-leveled  Japanese. Just like college classes or professional trainings, clients/students progress totally based on student performance.  Instructors provide study strategies and language and culture lessons towards a student's articulated goals.  These lessons and materials are based on well researched and proven practice methods.  In this way, we partner with students toward their goals.  Goal achievement is best related to how a student manages the project requirements, tasks and time in relation to achieving the articulated goal, making efforts both in and out of instructional appointments

What are the rules of Kanji Camp?

Our program protocols are quite simple and easy to follow.  Generally, students are expected to conduct themselves as if they were submerged in Japan. This means that students must learn cultural and social differences and adopt communication strategies to fit the environment within which they are studying.  Specific practices and procedures are provided in writing upon entrance to the program. And continuous improvement updates or strategy streamlining are provided periodically via the student newsletter or other program documentation.

Where exactly are you located?

Instruction and class location is dependent on your interest form content, specific year-round programming, class, curriculum or whether enrollment is for summer or winter camps. Enrolled students may need to meet regularly at a variety of spaces, such as a community library, the local community college or various, other public spaces in Hamilton County and Greater Indianpolis.  Some students meet at our private, traditional 1000 sq. ft. traditional classroom just off the arts district in Carmel.  Some students may meet at our future classroom, bigger than the one we have now. J

Why don't you publish your location?

Students who are accepted to our year-round programs receive a location map to the specific classroom related to the program in which they are enrolled.  As a traditional Japanese arts program, we are cautious in providing information to ensure people receive the most accurate information. As a by appointment only business, its very important that information seekers connect with the accountable person to best serve their questions.  Beyond these typical Japanese efficiency protocols, additional honorable reasons include:

+ to respect Japanese traditional arts culture.

+ to ensure quality service to contracted clients

+ to save time for all persons involved in the educational process.

+ to reduce student confusion and increase communication efficiency.

+ to ensure we are keeping agreements to clients with unique family situations.

+ to safeguard the minors and all persons involved in our program.

Can I visit and watch a class?

As our year round program is designed for serious students interested in truly learning Japanese language and culture, we preserve the Japanese educational environment of our classrooms. We safeguard student session time and do not allow for the interruptions to individual or group instruction. Current students are not used as marketing tools. And loyal students recommend our programs through natural word of mouth campaigns. Upon being accepted into our program and contraction of services, students have the opportunity to visit our classroom, either for instruction or classroom events. Custodial parents/guardians of students enrolled in the program may visit the classroom at any time their student is within a KC classroom. Disciplined time management also allows for student-instructor conferences about special situations or parent-teacher conferences for regular progress reports.

Why does the program seem mysterious?

Mysterious is a subjective term totally depending on the observers POV.  Japan is often coined one of the most unique places in the world with regard to is culture and customs. Therefore, its very likely that it could seem to the casual non-Japanese observer who has little to no experiences working or living in Japan. Yet, in truth, we operate like any quality business. Kanji Camp uses written communication and service agreements, standard operating procedures and other efficiency protocols to ensure timely, quality customer service. This also helps reduce misunderstandings between instructor and student as well as help to overcome any language barriers which would occur among persons who do not fluently speak the same language--English or Japanese.

How can I understand more about your program?

The best way to understand what we do is to enroll in one of programs and commit to the learning process. Committing means following the advise of the instructor assigned to your learning process.  The second best way to understand more about us is to actually connect with a current student, someone presently committed to our programming in time and finances--someone proactively participating in the cross-cultural educational environment.
